Eyelid Aesthetic Surgeries

These surgeries can be divided into two categories: upper and lower eyelid surgeries, which can be performed together.

Careful evaluation of the eyelids is necessary before surgery. These operations belong to the group that seems easy but requires delicacy and experience. Eyelid folds, the degree of skin laxity and excess, and their relationships with other surrounding structures are additional factors that need to be evaluated.

It is important to know the last time Botox was applied before surgery. Whether the patient is using blood thinners or anti-inflammatory drugs, or consuming herbal tea that increases bleeding, should be known beforehand.

When evaluating the upper eyelid, the amount of excess skin, muscle sagging, and eyebrow drooping should be assessed, while in the lower eyelid, the condition of the mid-face is also evaluated.

Post-eyelid surgery conditions to be aware of

  • Generally, no significant scar remains after surgery.
  • You will not experience eyelid problems for many years, but you may need another procedure in the coming years.

Upper Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

In a seated position, a drawing is first made on your eyelid to determine how much skin tissue will be removed. Then, in a lying position, necessary surgical preparations are made. A small surgical drape is placed. If sedation is necessary, it is done appropriately. Local anesthesia is applied to the determined eyelid area. The procedure is completed within about half an hour to 45 minutes. A special bandage is applied over the incision. We recommend applying local ice packs after the surgery. You can wash your face the next day. We invite you to our clinic 2 days later to remove the bandages. The very fine surgical sutures are removed in our clinic 1 week later, completing the procedure. Mild swelling and bruising may occur and are temporary.

Lower eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Lower eyelid surgeries are more complex procedures. Therefore, although they can be performed under local anesthesia, they are generally performed in the hospital under general anesthesia or sedation with local anesthesia. In lower eyelid surgeries, besides removing excess skin, interventions can also be made for under-eye bags. It can also be combined with a procedure called canthopexy, also known as “almond eye aesthetic.”
